11 March,2025:The National Biodiversity Centre (NBC) is pleased to announce the discovery of a new orchid species, ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, from the warm broadleaved forests of western Bhutan. This discovery brings Bhutanโs total recorded orchid species to 499, further highlighting the countryโs rich floral diversity.
๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฌ:
* Scientific Name: ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฆ๐ข๐๐๐๐ ๐๐
* Habitat: Leaf litter of warm broadleaved forests (approx. 1350m elevation)
* Height: 10โ30 cm
* Similar Species: ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ฃ๐๐ ๐ and ๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
* Conservation Status: Data Deficient (IUCN) โ Further research is needed to assess its distribution and threats
This significant discovery was made by Phub Gyeltshen and his team, further reinforcing the importance of Bhutanโs unique biodiversity. The species name ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฆ๐ข๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ pays tribute to Bhutan, known as the Land of the Thunder Dragon (๐ท๐๐ข๐๐ฆ๐ข๐).
