Building capacity of disaster responders in humanitarian supply chain and logistics

A five-day workshop on Humanitarian Supply Chain and Logistics Management is currently underway in Lobesa, Punakha.

The workshop, which began on 7 November is jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, the lead agency for the Logistics Desk, World Food Programme and HELP Logistics.

It was designed after a learning needs assessment conducted in October 2022. Relevant officials from seven districts of Punakha, Gasa, Dagana, Tsirang, Zhemgang, Bumthang and Trongsa are attending the workshop.

The workshop aims to equip disaster responders with key concepts of humanitarian supply chain and logistics management, introduce the concept of operations approach through simulation using the 2009 Mongar earthquake as a case study, and strengthen capacity with conceptual and practical knowledge on logistics and support functions.

Through capacity building and increased awareness, it is expected that there will be realistic planning and coordination among disaster responders during an emergency.

A similar workshop will be carried out in Trashigang from 14 – 18 November and in Phuentsholing from 5 – 9 December 2022.
