13 March, Thimphu: The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo and the team from the ministry met with the delegation from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) led by Director General Dr. Johan Swinnen today in the ministry.
Welcoming to the delegation, the Hon’ble Minister commended for IFPRI’s stewardship in providing research-based policy solutions in reducing poverty, hunger and malnutrition around the world. His Excellency highlighted some of the priority areas in the ministry requiring IFPRI’s expertise and guidance. Agriculture digitalization, e-commerce and innovation, application of Livestock Sector Investment and Policy Toolkit (LSIPT), revitalization of agricultural research, organic agriculture, investment mechanisms in marketing infrastructure, price regulation, market led production, native biodiversity conservation and utilization for income, food and nutrition security amongst others were discussed requiring support of IFPRI. The ministry also informed that several joint research publications and policy reports of the ministry with IFPRI continues to be used in the ministry for planning purposes and policy guidance.
The team is in Bhutan for a three-day official visit from 11th -14th March 2023.
