The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo accompanied by a team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock visited Tsirang District

𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟑𝟎, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒:The Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo accompanied by a team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock visited Tsirang District from 27-28 April 2024 as part of the ongoing familiarization program.

During the visit, Lyonpo met with Dzongkhag officials and extension staff of the ministry. Lyonpo also visited some of the field sites impacted by the hailstorm on 10th April and met with the farmers. Speaking to the affected farmers, the Hon’ble Lyonpo expressed deep concerns of the government and ministry of the incident which affected vegetables, cereals, and fruit trees belonging to 1,265 households in eight gewogs.

In a gesture of support, the minister handed over 36,000 packets of assorted vegetable seeds and over 6,060 kilograms of maize and buckwheat seeds to the district administration to be distributed to the affected farmers. Handing over the seeds to the District Administration, Lyonpo informed that with neither a clear policy nor dedicated fund for compensation currently, the provision of seeds should not be construed as compensation, but purely as a gesture of relief to enable the recultivation of vegetables and cereals affected by the hailstorm. Lyonpo urged the recultivation to be expedited with the cropping season nearing its end.
