The highly anticipated One-Child, One-Egg Initiative kicks off at Zunglen Primary School in Mongar.

21 February 2025, Mongar. The much awaited One-Child, One-Egg Initiative was formally rolled out at Zunglen Primary School under Drepong Gewog in Monggar on 21st February 2025 coinciding with the 45th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty The King. The Initiative was launched earlier this month by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan and the Director General of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Dr. QU Dongyu with the aim to combat child malnutrition by providing eggs to students while also strengthening local poultry farming.

In the first year, the program will benefit 32,000 students in 300 schools across the country, requiring 8.4 million eggs annually. Supported by FAO with USD 2M, the Initiative will engage about 169 farmers for egg production and the Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation Limited (BLDCL) for production, aggregation and supply of eggs to the schools.
