Food System Summit Dialogue held to strengthen Bhutanese food systems

As a part of the Food System Summit Dialogue, the Policy and Planning Division conducted sub-national dialogues on Food and Food Systems with a theme “Strengthening Bhutanese food systems for Gross National Happiness”.

The dialogue kicked off from August 18- 20 at Wangdue covering Dagana, Gasa, Punakha, Tsirang, Trongsa, Wangdue and Zhemgang Dzongkhags. It was followed by a second dialogue in Monger from August 23-25 covering Bumthang, Lhuentse, Mongar, Pemagatshel, Trashigang and Trashiyangtshe Dzongkhags. The third dialogue was held at Paro from August 30- September 1 covering Chhukha, Haa, Paro and Thimphu Dzongkhags.

Participants included the Dzongkhag’s government officials, local leaders, youths and representatives from private and NGOs. The national level dialogue is planned from September 8-9.

The dialogue will not only help us prepare for the global food system summit but will also provide opportunities for us to define and develop transformative pathways for food security of the country. The draft including the RNR Strategy 2040 and the RNR Marketing Strategy were also shared with participants for their valuable inputs, comments, experience sharing, recommendations and guidance.
