A major milestone towards safeguarding Bhutan’s Livestock against Lumpy Skin Disease

28 August Thimphu: In a significant stride towards safeguarding the health of Bhutan’s livestock against the current Lumpy Skin Disease, the Department of Livestock has efficiently distributed 294,350 doses of Lumpy Skin Disease vaccines across all 20 Dzongkhags. This comprehensive nationwide initiative, which commenced on August 20th, 2023 emphasizes the nation’s commitment to preserving its invaluable livestock population.

The campaign in each Dzongkhag was spearheaded by the Dzongkhag Livestock sector. The officials sought blessings from the revered religious institutions before starting the campaign. This initiative resonates with the deeply rooted values of Bhutanese society, emphasizing the harmonious coexistence of spiritual beliefs and practical endeavors.

The vaccination drive, initiated on August 20th, 2023 has already yielded promising results. As of yesterday, a remarkable total of 20, 867 animals, including Yaks, buffaloes, and Mithun have been successfully vaccinated against Lumpy Skin Disease.
