26 November, Thimphu: BAFRA launched three documents including the Bhutan Biosecurity and Food Safety Strategy and Action Plan (2021-2028), Plant Biosecurity Contingency Plan 2021 and the Annual Report.
The Strategy and Action Plan will help the country to address future biosecurity challenges in a better way. It outlines five prioritised goals: Invest in effective prevention and preparedness, adopt evidence-based best practices, create knowledge-sharing systems, enhance collaboration and make the actions more sustainable to build resilience.
In the past, it was a big challenge for the implementers to handle any pest outbreaks in absence of clear protocols. With the launch of the Contingency Plan, all the key players will have roles and responsibilities which are crucial to fight the situation during an emergency.
BAFRA’s Annual Report for 2020-2021 highlights some of the major achievements made in biosecurity and food safety domains among other progress.
The documents, the first of its kind were launched during the BAFRA’s meeting with the Hon’ble Secretary, Dasho Thinley Namgyel.
