5th March, 2024: Call on by the Director General (DG) of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)
Today, the Director General of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Dr. Pema Gyamtsho, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Younten Phuntsho, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock in Bhutan. During the discussion, ICIMOD provided updates on ongoing projects in Bhutan, in areas such as rangelands, solar pumps, and bioprospecting in medicinal plants. They also discussed past initiatives specifically on the support provided for Bhutan’s organic efforts through the National Organic Flagship programme.
A noteworthy proposal from ICIMOD involved the establishment of an Agriculture Demonstration and Training Centre in Bhutan, mirroring the success of the ICIMOD Demonstration and Training Centre located at Godavari.
H.E. the Minister expressed appreciation for ICIMOD’s assistance and shared details about Bhutan’s ambitious 13th Five-Year Plan. Additionally, H.E. suggested various collaboration opportunities, emphasizing the potential for ICIMOD to facilitate cooperation among regional member countries in managing transboundary animal diseases and enhancing capacity development.
