His Excellency, Lyonpo Yeshey Penjor is leading the Food System Stocktaking Moment in Rome

24-26 July, Rome: Food System Stocktaking Moment, the event, known as UNFSS+2, is being hosted by the government of Italy in collaboration with Rome-based UN Agencies (FAO, IFAD, WFP), the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, and the wider UN system. Taking place from 24 to 26 July 2023 at FAO headquarters.

As a key participant, Hon’ble Minister Lyonpo Yeshey Penjor, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, is attending the three-day event. He will deliver a statement on Bhutan’s efforts towards food systems transformation and share experiences from the Himalayan Kingdom during panel discussions, including “Food Systems Transformation – Linking Assessment and Dialogue to Investment and Action” and “Five Calls to Action for More Resilient Food Systems by 2030.”

During the conference, Honourable Minister Lyonpo Yeshey Penjor will also take an opportunity to meet with various development partners and counterparts, including the Delegation of the European Union, senior management of FAO, and the Food Systems Coordination Hub.

As part of the event, Bhutan has set up an Exhibition booth in collaboration with FAO Country Office, Bhutan. The booth displayed various products such as Quinoa, Turmeric powder, Ginger powder, Herbal Teas, and Honey. Additionally, electronic displays highlight Bhutan’s food and nutrition security policy, food systems transformation pathways for building resilience and achieving gross national happiness, upscaling climate resilient agri-food systems, and the roles of youth and women in agriculture.

The Exhibition booth has attracted a significant attention, as there are over 2000 participants from 127 countries worldwide attending this very important event. The UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, FAO and WFP has supported the participation to this event. The Hon’ble Minister is accompanied by Director, DAMC, Advisor to DoL, an Official each from DoA and PPD.
