22-27 August: The Hon’ble Minster, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests had a series of meetings with farmers of Sarpang, Tsirang and Dagana Dzongkhags on the recent egg and pork marketing issues. Farmers were happy that most of the issues were resolved at the ground level. The Hon’ble Minister also discussed various other issues at the local and grassroot level that required government interventions.
During the meeting with the farmers of three Dzongkhags, Hon’ble Lyonpo also took some time to share government’s plan and priorities, importance of food and nutrition security, crop prioritization, incentive scheme for market-led production, cost sharing mechanism, commercial and mega farms, high value crops for exports, Human Wildlife Conflict, endowment fund and insurance schemes, the government’s plan to provide chain link fencing to every dzongkhags and discussed on Cold Storage and Export Facilitation Centers, value addition and processing facilities that will ease the marketing issues. The Hon’ble Lyonpo also met the RNR field officials and interacted on various issues, policies, plans and priorities which required strong support from the field officials.
On his way back to Thimphu, the Hon’ble Minister visited the FMCL FDI Biofertilizer Plant which is under construction at Jareygang, Athang gewog in Wangduephodrang. The farm which is stretched over 19 acres also includes commercial horticulture farm for Mango, avocado and dragon fruits. While talking to the officials, Hon’ble Lyonpo commended the hard work done by FMCL and also thanked the youths who were engaged in the establishment of commercial farm.
