Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Younten Phuntsho, Chief Guest at SAPLING Dialogue, 2024

21st  September 2024: The Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Younten Phuntsho, participated as the Chief Guest at the SAPLING (South Asian Policy Leadership for Improved Nutrition and Growth) Dialogue on 21st September 2024. Organized by the World Bank, this key event, held as part of the 3rd World Food India from 19th to 22nd September 2024 in New Delhi, focused on fostering discussions around priority policy issues and developing strategies for creating efficient, resilient, sustainable, and climate-adaptive food and nutrition systems in South Asia. The ultimate goal is to achieve transformative health outcomes across the region.

In his keynote address, the Hon’ble Minister underscored Bhutan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its food and nutrition systems, highlighting the Royal Government’s steadfast commitment to developing efficient, sustainable, and resilient food systems in harmony with Bhutan’s guiding philosophy of Gross National Happiness. Lyonpo Younten Phuntsho stressed the significance of balanced, inclusive development and reaffirmed Bhutan’s dedication to advancing climate-resilient food and nutrition systems in close partnership with South Asian nations.     

The Hon’ble Minister also visited the international pavilions at the agri-food exhibition, where he interacted with representatives from various countries showcasing their food products, technologies, and innovations.

Later in the evening, the Hon’ble Minister attended a networking dinner hosted by the World Bank, where he engaged with World Bank officials, delegates, and other distinguished guests. The event provided an opportunity for meaningful discussions on strengthening partnerships and exploring collaborative initiatives. A few representatives from Bhutan’s CSI and agro-enterprises were also in attendance, further enriching the exchange of ideas and potential opportunities for growth in Bhutan’s agriculture and small-scale industries.
