August 22, 2022: The Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests is on tour to Sarpang, Tsirang and Dagana Dzongkhags from 22-28 August 2022. On his way to Sarpang Dzongkhag, the Hon’ble Minister met with RNR Sector Heads and officials of Tsirang and interacted on the issues and challenges faced by farmers concerning egg and pork marketing. Hon’ble Lyonpo informed the RNR officials on the series of meetings that the ministry had held with vendors and other stakeholders to resolve the marketing issues. Hon’ble Lyonpo emphasized on the importance of awareness program that the RNR field officials will have to create on the prices so that all are well informed about the agreement reached between the farmers and vendors. Identification of collection point at strategic location and identification of land for construction of Freezer Store (for Dagana, Sarpang and Tsirang) was also discussed to ease the issue of transportation and accessibility faced by vendors and also to store meat.
Towards the evening, the Hon’ble Lyonpo met with Dasho Dzongdag of Sarpang, Thrompon, Regional Heads and other RNR field officials at Royal Guest House, Gelephu and discussed on the areas of national importance including food security, issues and challenges faced by farmers particularly on the prices of pork and egg. The Hon’ble Lyonpo also shared with officials the ministry’s priorities and other important aspects such as food and nutrition security, import substitutions, and emphasized on the importance and need to have collective responsibility of all the RNR officials including Local Government functionaries to work towards achieving food security. To further ensure sustainability, effective service delivery and ensure “Nation Building”, the Hon’ble Lyonpo called for “sectoral approach to collective approach” henceforth.
