The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests in partnership with the De-Suung National Service has deployed about 446 De-Suups in 202 Gewogs to conduct mortality survey of the fruit trees planted through the Million Fruit Tree Project. starting from 1st October, 2022. The survey started from 1st October, 2022 and is expected to complete in two months. The survey will help the Ministry to obtain actual mortality data from the field. Accordingly, the replacement plans will be put in place to stabilize the establishment of at least one million fruit trees from the first phase of the project.
The Royal Command Project was implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests in partnership with the De-Suung National Service in March, 2022 and completed in June, 2022 after planting 1,019,785 number of fruit trees covering all the 20 Dzongkhags. The seedlings were distributed and planted as Royal Soelra with great economic value and symbolism through the engagement of about 2,118 De-Suups. The engagement of De-Suups in million fruit tree plantations has not only inculcated in them the values to appreciate our rural heartland but also it has given them the opportunity to reciprocate our farming communities for the invaluable roles they play in our lives.
The Royal Vision is to implement the Million Fruit Tree Project in a similar mode and scale for another 4 years and as commanded, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests is ready with the plans to implement the second phase of the Million Fruit Tree Plantation Project starting from February, 2023.
