World Food Day in Thimphu to be celebrated on 18 October 2021

Every year, October 16 is marked as World Food Day observed by all UN member countries around the world. This year, the day falls on non-working day (Saturday) hence Bhutan will observe the day in a simple ceremonial event on 18 October 2021 at the MoAF conference Hall with relevant delegates from UN agencies such as FAO, WFP, WHO, UNICEF, JICA and other government agencies. However, all schools around the country will observe the day on 16 October.

This year, FAO Rome has released the global theme for World Food Day 2021 as “Our actions are our future. Better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life”.

The event at Thimphu will be marked with the lighting of butter lamps, video speech from FAO Director General and keynote address on the World Food Day from the Hon’ble Sanam Lyonpo. Owing to a technical glitch in the online reporting system from MDCA to MODA, the national SAP awards could not be organised. However, it will resume in the following year.
